School Based Health Centers (SBHCs) provide comprehensive, coordinated healthcare at school – a trusted place where students spend a lot of their time.
SBHCs have been around for over 30 years and in North Carolina there are over 90 SBHCs in operation that serve over 30,000 students. According to the North Carolina School Based Health Alliance, “evidence shows SBHCs increase adolescent access to healthcare, reduce health and educational disparities, increase graduation rates, boost academic success and reduce healthcare costs.”
AppHealthCare operates two School Based Health Centers, the Top Dog Clinic and the Trojan Health Center. We accept private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, self-pay and uninsured and offer services on a sliding fee scale. Services provided at the SBHCs include: acute care (coughs, colds, runny noses, etc.), strep testing, respiratory virus testing, hemoglobin and glucose testing, yearly well checks, sports physicals, vision and hearing screenings, behavioral health and immunizations (Trojan Health Center: only during planned vaccine clinics or by appointment at AppHealthCare clinic) by appointment and with consent of parent/guardian. All medical care is provided with consultation and consent of the parent/guardian.
