Board of Health

The role of the Board of Health is to establish public health policy, promote health for the community and be an advocate for all citizens.

Alleghany, Ashe, and Watauga County Commissioners each select a member from their board to serve on the Board of Health. The appointed County Commissioner members of the Board of Health appoint members from each county for a 3-year term of service and the Members may be reappointed for a maximum of three consecutive terms. Specific professions are required by general statute to be members.
The Appalachian District Board of Health meets every other month.

The Board of Health meetings are held in-person and virtually with the in-person meetings typically held at the Ashe Chamber of Commerce at 6:30 pm unless otherwise noted. The virtual meetings will typically take place in the winter months. For meeting details, please visit our website for the most current information.
